Travel Information

The main conference airport is Verona–Villafranca (Valerio Catullo), in Verona, which is well-connected to most European capitals and airport hubs. It is also the base of Air Dolomiti, a member of Star Alliance (Lufthansa Group). Transportation options between the Verona–Villafranca airport and the conference venue in Riva del Garda are as follows:

  • Coach bus for VLDB participants, free of charge. There will be four such trips scheduled daily, for August 25-26 and August 29-30. Approximate travel time 60min.
  • Conference shuttle for VLDB participants, 40€ per person. There will be 4 such trips scheduled daily. Approximate travel time 60min. Participants will be able to book this option at registration time.
  • Pre-arranged shuttle for up to 8 persons, 135€ (price is per shuttle and can be shared by 1-8 passengers). Approximate travel time 60min. Participants will have to make arrangements themselves.
  • Taxi from the airport, 150€. Approximate travel time 60min.
  • Public bus from Verona (train station Verona Porta Nuova) to Riva del Garda, 10€ per person. Approximate travel time 2 hours.
Alternatively, participants can fly to the 2 international airports in Milan (Milano Malpensa, and Milano Linate). Transportation options between the Milan airports and the conference venue in Riva del Garda are as follows:
  • Conference shuttle for VLDB participants, 80€ per person from Milano Malpensa, 75€ per person from Milano Linate. There will be 2 such trips scheduled daily. Approximate travel time 4.5 hours from Malpensa, 3 hours from Linate. (The same shuttle will also stop at the Bergamo Orio al Serio airport, for 75€ per person, and 2 hours travel time.) Participants will be able to book this option at registration time. Details.
  • Train from Milan to Rovereto, from where there is a regular public bus service to Riva del Garda, 45€. Approximate travel time 4-5 hours.
Nature lovers can choose the Munich airport, and then take the train to Rovereto, in a scenic route through the Dolomiti mountains, for approx 40€-80€ (depending on how early the tickers are booked). It is a longer trip, but the trains are comfortable and the scenery spectacular. From Rovereto there is a regular public bus service to Riva del Garda. Approximate travel time 5.5 hours.
